Karmic Relationships Between Mother and Daughter
What happens when, in the spiritual perspective of this work, a deceased mother’s energy seems to remain attached to her daughter?
Sometimes a relationship does not feel as though it ends with death.
Unspoken emotions, guilt, fear, or powerful bonds can feel like an invisible connection that continues to weigh on a daughter.
In this article, I explore the sensitive subject of releasing a deceased mother’s soul—with respect, gentleness, and clear guidance toward restoring peace, strength, and a natural flow of life.
My client was exhausted, worn out, and at the end of her strength. She had been struggling with persistent, unexplained health difficulties.
She had lost most of her hair, as her mother had, and noticed physical symptoms that reminded her of her mother while she was alive.

She was quick-tempered and irritable, like her mother, and her hair was falling out as her mother’s had.
More than thirty years had passed since her mother’s last breath. In my perception during this work, something of her energy and legacy had remained with the person closest to her. ❤
The Karmic Mother–Daughter Relationship
When a Soul Chooses Its Mother: Why This Bond Can Be One of Life’s Hardest Lessons
Recently, a client approached me with words she had carried inside for a long time:
“I just can’t stand my mother. I can’t bear her, even on the phone. I don’t want to be like her…”She was honest, exhausted, and unsure why she felt drawn to her mother and pushed away from her at the same time. At moments like this, I find it meaningful to explore past lives. In the spiritual framework of my practice, when a relationship reaches an impasse, its roots may extend far beyond the present life.
We have an opportunity to work on our relationship with our mother while we are both alive, here and now. Sometimes, though, fate intervenes sooner, and someone we love leaves suddenly and unexpectedly. If something deeply unresolved remains after a loved one’s death, you may feel their energy or soul stays with you, alongside recurring thoughts, feelings, and memories.
In my practice, I also work with these experiences, seeking resolution, understanding, and mutual forgiveness.
How a Soul Chooses Its Parents
From the perspective of soul work, the circumstances of our birth are not random. In this understanding, before incarnation, a soul chooses:
- Its particular parents
- Its family lineage and environment
- The time and place of its birth
- The kinds of experiences it wishes to have in life
Within this spiritual view, it chooses a mother and father whose personalities, energies, and unresolved patterns relate to what the soul wishes to understand and heal.
A soul seeking to discover its own strength may choose circumstances in which it encounters rejection or a lack of appreciation. A soul in need of gentleness and safety may arrive where there is unconditional love.
The Karmic Connection Between Mother and Child
In my understanding of soul work, the mother–daughter relationship can be one of our strongest karmic bonds. Souls meet again across different lives, in different roles.

These changes in roles are understood as opportunities for both souls to explore different forms of love, boundaries, release, respect, and compassion. This may be why a mother–daughter relationship feels so intense: it carries many layers, stories, unresolved wounds, and feelings.
An Agreement Between Mother and Daughter
In this spiritual framework, choosing parents is a mutual agreement. A child arrives to understand something, while also creating an opportunity for the parents to grow.
A child is often a catalyst for change. Their presence can set family changes and healing in motion, sometimes bringing old pain to the surface.
During sessions, clients often describe seeing the moment when their soul chose their mother. This can bring a deep sense of understanding: even a difficult relationship can be viewed as a lesson the souls agreed to explore together.
For many people, this understanding brings a first breath of relief.
Understanding the Lesson Can Soften the Pain
A mother is more than the physical person who brought us into the world. In this perspective, she is a gateway into particular life themes. As we understand those themes, pain can become wisdom.
In my experience, past-life therapy can bring a sense of light to places long marked by exhaustion, resistance, or feeling misunderstood. Space may open for:
- Peace
- Understanding
- Inner freedom
- Sometimes, a new quality of relationship
