Karmic Mother–Daughter Relationships: A Stillborn Baby and the Secrets of a Family Line
When a Family Line Carries the Pain of Losing a Child
A story from my therapeutic practice about how a mother’s grief after losing a child may touch the next generation of women.
Sometimes something happens in a family that is almost never spoken about. Yet its imprint can remain in the family for many years. This story explores how the loss of a child and a mother’s powerful emotions may affect the next generation, and how conscious work with the family system may help bring healing to these old stories.
Her Mother’s Death Opened an Old Story
A woman came to a session shortly after her mother’s death. Her mother had died suddenly from a ruptured aorta, just short of her seventy-ninth birthday.
The focus of the session was simple: to connect with her mother’s soul and explore what remained unresolved between them.
As we worked, however, a much older story began to emerge, reaching deep into the history of this family.
Trauma During Pregnancy
The client’s mother had once been expecting her second son. She was in her ninth month of pregnancy.

At that time, her husband went away for several days. She remained home alone in the summer heat, pregnant, caring for a young child, and feeling deeply tense.
She could not sleep. Her abdomen kept tightening. Gradually, she began to feel that the baby had stopped moving.
She did not want to believe it.
She hoped it was only an uneasy feeling.
But deep inside, she already sensed that something had happened.
A Birth That Changed Her Life
The birth at the hospital happened very quickly. The doctors sped up the delivery.
The baby was stillborn.
His mother was in profound shock. It felt unreal, as though the whole experience were a terrible dream.
Later, when her own mother confirmed that the baby had truly died, an immense wave of grief came over her.
She began to blame herself. She felt that she had failed and that her body had betrayed her.
Guilt and Abandonment
She also felt intense anger toward her husband.
She felt he had gone away at the hardest moment and left her to face everything alone.
These emotions—anger, sorrow, and guilt—became intertwined and left a deep impression.
After the birth, she spent several weeks in a treatment facility. At that time, it was common for women who had been through similar experiences to spend time in such facilities to recover physically and emotionally.
Even so, the experience left a lasting mark on her life.
A Sense That the Child’s Soul Remained Close
Another powerful impression emerged during our session.
I sensed that the little boy’s soul had remained close to his mother.
It was as though she could not let him go, unconsciously holding his soul near her to fill the emptiness she felt after such a great loss.
In my experience of this work, such bonds can seem to endure for a very long time.
Healing the Female Family Line
The daughter who came to the session is the only daughter among four siblings.
In my work, I often find that daughters become a starting point for healing within the female family line.
I understand the trauma her mother experienced after losing a child as something that may also touch later generations. In sessions, themes such as difficulty conceiving or fear of motherhood sometimes arise in connection with these family stories.
Within this approach, these patterns are understood as unconscious, held deep within the family system.
Bringing an Old Family Story to a Close
Toward the end of our work, we moved through a process of forgiveness among the family members.
Gradually, old pain, guilt, and anger began to soften.
Finally, in the spiritual experience of the session, we helped the mother and little Petříček’s soul move on.
It was a very peaceful moment. After so many years, an old family story could come to a close.
Working with the Family System
In my therapeutic practice, I often work with family systems principles and the family constellations method.
When old family events that have remained hidden can be seen and acknowledged, tension carried within a family for many years may begin to ease.
This can also open the possibility of change for later generations.
Perhaps Your Family Story Is Waiting for Healing
Sometimes the difficulties we experience are connected to more than our own lives. They may also relate to stories that unfolded long before we were born.
If you sense recurring themes in your life—in relationships, motherhood, or family bonds—it may feel healing to explore your family story from a deeper perspective.
In my work, I guide you gently through that process.
